Unconscious Bias

I want to take you on a kind of unconscious bias journey.

How do you see the world around you?

We respond positively to people who we receive to be like us, and act against those who seems to be different. That’s alright in a life and death situation but not quite right among Christians, especially when dealing with God.

What is unconscious bias?

Unconscious bias refers to a bias that we are unaware of, and which happens outside of our control. It is a bias that happens automatically and is triggered by our brain making quick judgments and assessments of people and situations, influenced by our background, cultural environment and personal experiences.

These mental shortcuts may lead us astray, especially when they cause us to misjudge people.

When we see anyone, whether you think about it or not we automatically make judgements about them, and some assumptions we make on people can have lasting effects on people, for example those we serve God with.

I asked above that how do you see the world?

We all have this sort of problem, that sometimes we don’t see things aright. But obviously some would say, me bias! No I am not. Apathy is what destroys us my friend. But after a real introspection we despair and then conclude, well that’s me I guess I can’t change.

Romans 3:3-6 says, "For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance? (I speak as a man) God forbid: for then how shall God judge the world?"

You may say I guess I can’t change, but the truth is you can, especially when confronted with truth, that, "thou mightest be justified." Let God be true! He said you can see right, hear right and walk right. It’s never to late for you to change my friend, never.

What should you do next?

My pastor taught me, admit! But what are you to admit?

"As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one." Romans 3:10-12.

Admit it that on your own you can do nothing. It is how God sees the world that should matter to you. You need help from above. "Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus." Romans 3:24-26.

He harnesses on our behalf these our mental shortcomings and shortcuts whichever it is that deceive or cause us to misjudge people. To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

God bless,

Contend for the Faith!

You’re in Jesus Christ as God’s plan of salvation for you;
He called you, and you said yes in Jesus, wherein you are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved. In him is God’s mercy, and peace, and love multiplied towards you.
You are sanctified and preserved in Christ by God the Father, and not you alone, it’s a common salvation - it is the case throughout the world. The whole world is going after him. What happened to me happened also to you and to all who believe in God through Christ around the world.
Here is why God chose you, "that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints" Jude 1:3.
We earnestly contend for the faith,  [or defend] the common salvation, that it remains the same as it was first delivered.
"For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ."…

Receive the Holy Spirit!

In Mark chapter one John the Baptist told his audience that the one who is more powerful is coming, he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.
And in those days Jesus came from Nazareth and was baptized in the Jordan by John, and as soon as he came up out of the water, John saw the heavens open and the Spirit descending on Jesus like a dove, and immediately the Spirit drove him into the wilderness.
Now listen my friend; when you receive the Holy Spirit, immediately your life changes.
God does not give you of his spirit to only experience a funny feeling; quaking, trembling, or entertaining others like what they do in circus, but he gave us that he should drive us to doing his will. The Spirit drove Jesus into the wilderness for "forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him." It was not fun, but serious business, such that later a man with an unclean spirit, "cried out, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, tho…

It is well with my soul

Jesus said, "In your patience possess ye your souls." Luke 21:19.
He says, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" Mark 8:36-37.
My message here for you is after you have done all in life, gain your souls, know how you can possess it. When you are self-aware, you consciously know and understand your own character, feelings, motives, desires and what these should serve in life. When we are self-aware, we are able to experience ourselves as separate individuals, with unique personalities natured for the divine, and it is what makes it possible for us to make lasting changes in our lives.
Self-awareness is empowering, because the more self-aware we are, the more we know who we are, what our strengths are, where we need to make improvements, and  what to do. Know that you have a soul, and that soul needs to grow and it does grow only when you feed it with things divine, no…
