The Tower of Babel

Simple Gospel Summation

After the flood, people were speaking a single language. These agreed to build a city and a tower tall enough to reach heaven. God, observing their city and tower, confounds their speech so that they can no longer understand each other, and he scattered them around the world.

Why God confounded them is because the tower was never dedicated to him, but was about their pride and ego that they built that city and tower. There is only one way to reach heaven my friend, and Jesus is.

Throughout history whenever people would try to build structures with similar elements, especially not according to his will, God would disapprove, again and again and again. It wouldn’t matter who is doing it. He said to Moses, "And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them. [9] According to all that I shew thee, after the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it" Exodus 25:8-9.

The Bible says, "And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth" Genesis 11:1–9.

God was concerned, but what was their sin? It’s in these words, "Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth." It was about them isn’t it? They sought not God, and in turn, that which they feared came upon them. They were divided and God brought into existence multiple languages. Thus, humans were divided into linguistic groups, unable to understand one another.

When the risen Christ ascended to heaven, the disciples were on to build another tower;
"And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need" Acts 2:44-45.
"Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet" Acts 4:34-37.

What’s wrong with that? I will ask you the same, what was wrong with the Tower of Babel? Nothing visible to the naked eye.

It was working for them, isn’t it, but not for long though; they were soon dispersed to mind about the great commission, not building a city and tower for themselves.

Even now, we see a repeat of these things, where, even in Church believers appear to be competing with God. But the believer should know the construction of the tower is act of defiance against God. It shows a believer’s arrogance. We have built cathedrals of faith, and have church buildings which in some countries are now turned into flats and museums. What went wrong?  We forget that the temple of God is now opened in heaven, and actually Paul asks, "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?" 1 Corinthians 3:16. God has now chosen to place his name on you.

God bless,
Laurence

Who are you following?

Each and every one of us will follow someone, however the person you follow will either lead you to fulfil your potential or will lead you to the wrong place.
Who are you following? A deaf-blind leader always lead someone into a ditch. Paul said, "Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour." Ephesians 5:1-2
He reminds us of who to follow and that person is none other than God himself who’s to lead you until you encounter his purpose and will.
Following God will lead you to a new birth with Jesus, and life in the spirit. You never go wrong with his plan. But if you follow people they’ll lead you to all uncleanness; idolatry, covetousness and fornication. "For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope..."Romans 8:20.

The office of a bishop!

"A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach." 1 Timothy 3:2
You got to tick all the boxes to be a bishop, not to tick tick the only one box that suits you most, but all. It‘s not enough only to be able to teach whilst you fail on the other aspects. A bishop must be blameless and beyond reproach, the husband of one wife, self-controlled, sensible, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not addicted to wine, not a bully, but gentle, considerate, and free from the love of money. Now consider also your leader, if he/she can teach, but falls short on the other characteristics then you should know you’re both liable to falling into the devil’s trap. How will he/she take care of the church of God while ethically wrong?
Paul says, "These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly: But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, …

Why we go to church

Church is a place where the Lord your God has chosen to place his name there.

Moses said, thou shalt go there, "and worship before the Lord thy God" Deuteronomy 26:10.

You go to Church to worship the Lord, and to "rejoice in every good thing which the Lord thy God hath given unto thee, and unto thine house..." Deuteronomy 26:11. While there also you petition the Lord to bless you too.

Deuteronomy 26:16-19 says, "This day the Lord thy God hath commanded thee to do these statutes and judgments: thou shalt therefore keep and do them with all thine heart, and with all thy soul. Thou hast avouched the Lord this day to be thy God, and to walk in his ways, and to keep his statutes, and his commandments, and his judgments, and to hearken unto his voice: And the Lord hath avouched thee this day to be his peculiar people, as he hath promised thee, and that thou shouldest keep all his commandments; And to make thee high above all nations which he hath made, in praise, a…
