And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad. If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given. For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath, Mark 4:21-25 KJV.
When you light up a candle you place it on a candlestick so that light fills the room. The gospel is that light, which when brought in your life it lights up your darkness. However, for it to be effective it mustn’t be kept secret, but must be placed on a stand to be useful and then shine without diminishing or possibly extinguishing.
I like how Paul puts it, he said, "Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men: Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart" 2 Corinthians 3:2-3.
Your lives are a letter written, everyone can read it, is a candle lit to give light to all. He says, "But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort" And he asked, "For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle? So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air," 1 Corinthians 14:8-9.
In Matthew chapter 5 Jesus says, "Ye are the salt of the earth" “Ye are the light of the world" "Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven" Matthew 5:15-16.
Now if we shall put our light under a bushel, or under a bed? and not be set on a candlestick? How should we be known?
God bless,
