The chief priests and Pharisees gave Judas Iscariot a group of soldiers and police to accompany him, and they arrived at where Jesus was.
Now at his arrest after Jesus had fully realised all that was going to happen to him, He stepped forward to meet them and asked, "Whom are you looking for?" They replied, "Jesus of Nazareth," and He said, "I am he."
Remember, He once taught, that "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also" Matthew 5:38-39.
But Simon Peter drew a sword and slashed off the right ear of Malchus, the High Priest's servant. Then Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword away. Shall I not drink from the cup the Father has given me?"
Peter, Didn’t I tell you to not resist evil; that if one slaps you on your right cheek, then turn the other to him also? Put your sword away; for the scriptures must be fulfilled.
In this business one must be prepared to do good and suffer, to carry the sword and not use it. Put your sword away because if you play with the sword you will die with a sword. Apostle Peter said, "For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully. For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: "Who committed no sin, Nor was deceit found in His mouth"; who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness-by whose stripes you were healed." 1 Peter 2:19-24.
Jesus asked Peter, "Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?"
Like you have just seen above, we also have our own cups we’ve to drink, our own crosses to carry and burdens to bear. One has to endure grief, suffer wrongfully, but take it patiently.
Apostle Paul says, "We give no offense in anything, that our ministry may not be blamed. But in all things we commend ourselves as ministers of God: in much patience, in tribulations, in needs, in distresses, in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in sleeplessness, in fastings; by purity, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, by sincere love, by the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, by honor and dishonor, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true; as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold we live; as chastened, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things." 2 Corinthians 6:3-10.
He said, "Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?" Yes he was exceedingly sorrowful, even to death so much that He "prayed, saying, "O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me," But He said, "nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will."
Paul said, "Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong." His Grace is sufficient for you, it is it that makes you strong, but there is no reward when you resist evil.
