A lit lamp gives you light

God is our light; The reason He’s in your life is so that He may light up your inward being, that your soul may never walk in darkness, but in justice and the love of God. When the eyes of your understanding are lit up with facts and truth of the gospel, (please don’t hide it) instead shine on, and give light to others too, especially to those who come in your life. But to effectively do it, take instruction; put that light on a lamp stand, where you can emit light to all. " Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness. " Luke 11:35. But make sure that it’s good, the true gospel, is radiant and pure, and is giving light to all within your reach. Your light must not be darkness, nor be good for nothing, also be wary of the things (greed and wickedness) that try to shut off your light, to plunge you into darkness again. But if you’re filled with light within, with no dark corners, then your face will be radiant too, it will manifest the inside of you. God

Beware of leaven

In the meantime, " He began to say to His disciples first of all, "Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy " Luke 12:1 NKJV. My friend, everything that you listen to or are taught; all should be heard of in the light of scripture. Also, beware of the hypocrisy of those who claim to have higher standards or more noble beliefs than is the case. What some of these do is pretend and posture themselves as true yet they are insincere (play games) and are bent on deceiving, on empty talks and performing arts with all manner of dishonesty gain and falsehood. Jesus said, "How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? - but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees." Matthew 16:11. Then the disciples understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees designed only that you should keep their traditions. Beware of the doctrines there these d

The sign of Jonah

Reverend Muzembi And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say, "This is an evil generation. It seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet, Luke 11:29 NKJV. Jesus looked at our generation and concluded; This is an evil generation.  A profoundly immoral and wicked generation; very ungodly, sinful, corrupt, demonic and shocking because it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet. It seeks a sign, meaning that they thought what Jesus was doing was funfair, circus or some form of joke or entertainment. It’s a generation that never took the things of God serious for themselves. " Others, testing Him, sought from Him a sign from heaven " Luke 11:16. They cross-examined Him about many things, but He said no sign will be given to [this generation] except the sign of Jonah the prophet. Paul bemoaned how the Corinthians sought for proof of Christ speaking in him. He said, &quo

The kingdom of God vs The kingdom of Satan

There are only two kingdoms at play in this world; The kingdom of God and The kingdom of Satan, and the latter is of darkness (evil) and former, light (goodness). The world is under the influence of either one of them. How do you know which side you belong? Your own works detects which side you belong; to Satan when your works are evil, and God when filled with the fruits of righteousness. ‘Evil works’ are all that’s bad,  immoral and wicked; wickedness, wrong doing, ungodly, corrupt, unholy, malicious, etc. The kingdom of Satan (darkness) are the abominations (enormities, crimes, monstrosities, and barbarity, torment, harmful or undesirable) that you see, and it is the kingdom of Satan that causes all human sufferings; atrocities, miseries, sorrows, trauma, troubles, disasters, destructions, losses, misfortunes, catastrophes, calamities, afflictions, woes, ruin, harm, pain, hurt and hardships. Now Jesus said, " Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and a

Lord, teach us to pray!

One of His disciples said, " Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. " So He said to them, " When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one, " Luke 11:2-4 NKJV So when you pray my friend, pray according to this model of prayer:  1. Our Father in heaven God should know that you’re praying to him, and that you know him, and relate with him as your Father in heaven. If that’s the fact then you move on to step 2. 2. Hallowed be Your name If he’s your Father you should then know his name. What’s his name? Say it, and whenever you say His name, magnify and honour it as holy. Demonstrate that you know how He wants to be known as and revered. It’s enough to address God as your Heavenly Father o

Sit down, Martha!

The story of Martha and Mary tells us that there are two types of Christians out there; where one is a worshipper and another is a waitperson or server. You can choose what you want to be, that’s to be a worshipper or server. But listen to this before you do; " Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me." And Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her. "" Luke 10:38-42. Mary chose the best part, to sit down at his feet and not be worried, frustrated, confused and troubl

Blessed are the eyes!

In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, "I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him, Luke 10:21-22 NKJV. It is a matter of principle, that things which concerns the kingdom of God should be known or given by revelation only, and also that they be revealed to ‘babies,’ or the unimportant of this world or the poor in spirit. It’s not a mystery, for so it seemed good in the sight of God. I hear Apostle Paul say, " Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the

Spirits are subject to you!

In Luke 10, Jesus sends seventy others, two by two into every city and place where He Himself was about to go. He said to them go your way; " And heal the sick there, and say to them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you. '’ Luke 10:9  They came back thrilled and excited. This is the same experience we should have when we give out the Word of God, and when we pray for the sick and heal them. How glorious we feel also when more labourers are come into His harvest! Luke said, " the seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name." And He said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven. " Luke 10:17-20. Satan’s new ho

Who’s the greatest?

In the early verses of this chapter, Jesus calls together the 12 disciples and sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. "... and He gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases " Luke 9:1.  So they departed and went through the towns, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere. Afterwards, they returned happy, all amazed at the majesty of God.  Then Jesus said to His disciples, " Let these words sink down into your ears, for the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men. " Luke 9:43-44.  " Then a dispute arose among them as to which of them would be greatest. And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a little child and set him by Him, and said to them, "Whoever receives this little child in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me. For he who is least among you all will be great. " Luke 9:46-48. Then John interrupted, " Master, we saw someone cast

Who is my neighbour?

A certain lawyer tested Jesus with two questions, " Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? ", "And Who is my neighbour? " In regard to the first Jesus said to him, " What is written in the law? What is your reading of it?" So he answered and said, " 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,' and 'your neighbor as yourself.'" And He said to him, "You have answered rightly; do this and you will live. " Luke 10:26-28. But who is my neighbour? Then Jesus told him a parable of the Good Samaritan, and said " So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?" And he said, "He who showed mercy on him." Then Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise. " Luke 10:36-37. Who are the three characters who witnessed this man’s ordeal? A priest and a Levite came where he was and they

The Christ of God

And it happened, as He was alone praying, that His disciples joined Him, and He asked them, saying, "Who do the crowds say that I am?" So they answered and said, "John the Baptist, but some say Elijah; and others say that one of the old prophets has risen again." He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter answered and said, "The Christ of God.", Luke 9:18-20 NKJV. The disciples told him what the general populace including the military and of course the king had thought Jesus was. But, despite what the crowds may have been thinking or teaching, even Today, (don’t feel prey or compelled) for Christ is instead revealed (declared) only by a revelation of God, not through philosophy, theology, or any form of doctrine. Jesus said, " All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. " Luke 10:22

Take Up the Cross and Follow Him!

Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father's, and of the holy angels. But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God ." Luke 9:23-27 NKJV. My friend, this is all important; that as a Christian you shouldn’t be ashamed of Christ and His Word, but follow him; take up your cross daily, put away your own desires, and acknowledge Him as both Lord and Christ, and serve Him. "... For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed WHEN HE COMES IN HIS OWN GLORY, AND IN HIS FAT

Demonic possession

And when He stepped out on the land, there met Him a certain man from the city who had demons for a long time. And he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house but in the tombs , Luke 8:27 NKJV. In the passage we see a man who was possessed by a multitude of demons (Legion), he had phenomenal powers and was living naked among the tombstones. Demon possession can cause one to do evil, Judas being the main example. In Acts 16:16-18, the spirit  gave a slave girl some ability to know things beyond her own capabilities, and King Saul, after rebelling against the LORD, was troubled by an evil spirit (1 Samuel 16:14-15; 18:10-11; 19:9-10) causing him to be depressed, and had an increased desire to kill David. Thus, because of demons this man wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house but in the tombs, and to add to that there are other symptoms a demon possessed can suffer from, such as physical impairment, a personality disorder, depression or aggression, immodesty, antisocial behaviour,

Do you believe this?

Feel your heart with good things, with the word of God; so that anything you speak, with your mouth (tongue or lips) is just faith.    Faith is that you say or do because you believed it first in your heart. Jesus said, " A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. " Luke 6:45. It’s within our human nature to bring forth what’s in our hearts, but a Christian is helped by the word or spirit to bring forth good things, the fruit of the spirit from out of the good treasure of their hearts. You will not bring forth vain words, but good news, which is the fruit of the spirit.  A good man is he/she who has learned to not question God’s wisdom in their heart. How, Who, What, When, Where and Why is not in their vocabulary. If we do, then that may mean it is coming out of the evil treasure of the heart. But thou my friend, whatever yo

Where is your faith?

Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, "Let us cross over to the other side of the lake." And they launched out, Luke 8:22 NKJV. It was a normal day, one that they wanted to cross over to the other side of the lake, and so they launched out. But as they sailed He fell asleep, suddenly they were in jeopardy, a storm started to come down on the lake, and the boat was filling with water.  Whether it was an ordinary storm or something else, we don’t know, but it arose and suddenly was ferocious towards them. The storm did not disturb the Lord, but the disciples were shaken. They were frightened and felt like everyone in the boat would perish.  " And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, "Master, Master, we are perishing!" Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. " Luke 8:24. He rebuked the wind and the raging of the water, " Peace,

Parable of the Lamp

No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a lampstand, that those who enter may see the light. For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light. Therefore take heed how you hear. For whoever has, to him more will be given; and whoever does not have, even what he seems to have will be taken from him , Luke 8:16-18 NKJV. Christ is our Light, He’s in our lives for a reason, that the light of the gospel may shine through to us, so that people in our lives may see the light.   We are held responsible for the light we have received, that the lamp keeps burning and giving light. What’s our Light? Christ is, the gospel is, and whoever receives the truth of the gospel has this light in them and must act responsibly, and set it on a lampstand so that the works of darkness may be dispersed, that those we come across   may encounter the same light we’ve received, and when this light sh

The Parable of the Sower

Jesus went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God, and one day a crowd came to Him from every city, and they gathered themselves before Him.  Note how when He fed the five thousand, Jesus saw this great multitude and was moved with compassion for them, " because they were like sheep not having a shepherd. So He began to teach them many things " Mark 6:34. But here His reaction towards these is different, because when they gathered, He spoke by a parable, and when he finished, He cried out, " He who has ears to hear, let him hear! " He didn’t worst much time with them. His disciples wondered for they also didn’t understand the Parable, so they asked Him, " What does this parable mean? " He didn’t mince his words, but said, " To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest it is given in parables, that 'Seeing they may not see, And hearing they may not under

A man placed under authority!

Soon after Jesus had concluded teaching His disciples in the hearing of all the people, He entered Capernaum, and there a certain centurion's servant, who was dear to him, was sick and ready to die. So when he heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant. My friend, is there something that’s troubling you, anything, it may be the sickness of a beloved one?  If your answer is yes, have you ever heard about Jesus? You may probably say yes as I would expect, but how great it may be if you also have faith in Jesus on behalf of others? This centurion had a servant, who was dear to him, but he was sick and ready to die. The centurion had heard about Jesus, but thought he was not worthy to have Him in his house nor to come near him, so " he sent elders of the Jews to Him, pleading with Him to come and heal his servant. " Luke 7:3. I don’t blame you if you may also feel that you’re not worthy because that’s what religion has

He lifted up His eyes towards His disciples!

Jesus called together his disciples to Himself, and from them he  " chose twelve whom He also named apostles " Luke 6:13-14. Is the 3rd time we see Him calling his disciples. Then He lifted up His eyes toward His disciples, and He blessed them, and told them to do things as he said, to be perfectly trained to be like him, to bear good fruit, and to not judge or condemn others, but forgive and love their enemies. Also, He pronounced woes on the wanna be rich Apostles and said,  " But woe to you who are rich, For you have received your consolation. Woe to you who are full, For you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, For you shall mourn and weep. Woe to you when all men speak well of you, For so did their fathers to the false prophets. " Luke 6:24-26. He’s saying this to his newly appointed apostles, that  your aim shouldn’t be to be rich, fat and prosperous now, for your happiness shouldn’t be down here. Sorrow awaits you, and mourning and weeping hereafter when a

Jesus Cleanses a Leper!

And it happened when He was in a certain city, that behold, a man who was full of leprosy saw Jesus; and he fell on his face and implored Him, saying, "Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean." Then He put out His hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing; be cleansed." Immediately the leprosy left him. And He charged him to tell no one, "But go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing, as a testimony to them, just as Moses commanded." However, the report went around concerning Him all the more; and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities. So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed. "  Luke  5:12-16 NKJV. Leprosy is a chronic, progressive bacterial infection which primarily affects the nerves of the extremities, the skin, the lining of the nose, and the upper respiratory tract. It produces skin ulcers, nerve damage, and muscle weakness. If it isn’t

Do you see this woman?

In Luke 7,  One of the Pharisees, Simon, asked Jesus to come to his home for lunch and Jesus accepted the invitation.  As they sat down to eat, a woman heard he was there and she brought a flask filled with expensive perfume. She knelt behind him at his feet, weeping, with her tears falling down upon his feet; and she wiped them off with her hair and kissed them and poured the perfume on them. Simon sees it and said to himself, " This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner. " She’s weeping, because her sins had been forgiven, but Simon isn’t seeing all that, he is seeing a sinner, and is being judgemental. There are Christians like that my friend, who don’t see your newness in Christ, but are such as will continue to hold you on things you used to do before you came to Christ, and would Christ have nothing to do with you. They say pastor you’ve no idea what manner of woman this is. Anyway, Jesus said

My mother and My brothers are these!

Apostle Peter said; " Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, because "All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away, But the word of the LORD endures forever." Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you " 1 Peter 1:22-25 NKJV. You have been born again, not of corruptible seed (flesh) but incorruptible (Spirit), through the word of God -  love (the brethren,) or one another fervently with a pure heart. Peter is declaring a new relationship in this passage, or rather he is affirming that relationship Jesus started when He said, " My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it " (Luke 8:19–21). Our brotherly

He has anointed Me!

And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written: "The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD." Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him , Luke 4:17-20 NKJV. When The Spirit of the LORD is come upon you, this same anointing will come upon you also. The prophet says, " It shall come to pass in that day That his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, And his yoke from your neck, And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil ." Isaiah 10:27. The Spirit of the LORD The Holy Spirit is the only anointing oil you need. He comes to empow
