The sign of Jonah

Reverend Muzembi
Reverend Muzembi
And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say, "This is an evil generation. It seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet, Luke 11:29 NKJV.

Jesus looked at our generation and concluded; This is an evil generation.

A profoundly immoral and wicked generation; very ungodly, sinful, corrupt, demonic and shocking because it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet.

It seeks a sign, meaning that they thought what Jesus was doing was funfair, circus or some form of joke or entertainment. It’s a generation that never took the things of God serious for themselves.

"Others, testing Him, sought from Him a sign from heaven" Luke 11:16. They cross-examined Him about many things, but He said no sign will be given to [this generation] except the sign of Jonah the prophet.

Paul bemoaned how the Corinthians sought for proof of Christ speaking in him. He said, "I pray to God that you do no evil, not that we should appear approved, but that you should do what is honorable, though we may seem disqualified." 2 Corinthians 13:7.

But Jesus said one sign you will see, of the prophet Jonas. God brought him out of darkness and death into light and life and resurrection, and the “sign” would be His own death and resurrection, and him living in each one of us who believe. Paul said to those seeking the proof of his apostleship; look around you, and see how Christ is formed in you because of my preaching.

This is an evil generation;

  1. - they pass over judgment and the love of God
  2. - they love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.
  3. - they are a bad influence.
  4. - They place emphasis on material things rather than on the spiritual purpose for which the bible was written. And they themselves are not living according to the Scriptures.

This generation is worse than others, and our dilemma even worse because more shall be required of us, and this is for one reason, "for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered" Luke 11:51-52. The greatest hindrance to the cause of Christ today is the professed believer who has taken away the key of knowledge from others. We need to examine our own lives in the light of this Scripture!

God bless you,

Laurence

Sit down, Martha!

The story of Martha and Mary tells us that there are two types of Christians out there; where one is a worshipper and another is a waitperson or server. You can choose what you want to be, that’s to be a worshipper or server. But listen to this before you do;"Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me." And Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her."" Luke 10:38-42.Mary chose the best part, to sit down at his feet and not be worried, frustrated, confused and troubled ab…

Your fellowship in the gospel

As we fellowship with each other as believers, remember that our fellowship is only in the gospel. We love the brotherhood with the affection of Jesus Christ only, nothing more.Apostle Paul says, "And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment, that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God," Philippians 1:9-11.So, as you fellowship with other believers, always remember that your job as a Christian is to ensure the progress of others and joy of faith, and to defend the gospel. The Apostle says, "Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so...that you may stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel." Philippians 1:27.Be like-minded; help each other, work together with one heart, be warm-h…

Be filled with all the fullness of God

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,Ephesians 1:3.Did you know, that He chose us in Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will, and made us accepted in the Beloved? And "predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself," Ephesians 1:5. Now because we’re sons, He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places. You don’t find that anywhere my friend, except in Christ. Now, my prayer for you is that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you also the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, that you may understand the mystery of His will, the mystery of Christ, that He purposed in himself to gather together in one all things in Christ, He has put all things under His feet, both which are in heaven and which are on earth, and we ourselves also have our redemption through His blood. We were gentiles,…
